Horseback Riding

A day-use area is available for those who wish to bring their own horses and ride for the day.  The bridle trail is approximately 6.5 miles in length and offers a nice combination of rolling terrain and lake views.  Riders can travel in either direction.

In order to keep the horse trail open and to provide you with a pleasurable experience, riders must do the following:

1. Call ahead to check riding conditions. Please do not ride when the trail is muddy. This causes erosion, and degrades the trail. (765) 987-1232

2. When riding, all horses MUST stay on the marked bridle trail only. Please ride responsibly; your actions can affect others. Please stay off the mountain bike trail.

3. Keep horses out of the lake. This is for your horse’s safety as well as your own.

4. All persons are responsible for cleaning up after their animals at the hitching rails. The manure is to be either hauled off the property or carried back into the woods and scattered. The area around the hitching rails is to be clean when you leave.

5. Horses are to be hitched ONLY to the hitching rails. Hitching horses to trees and making rope corrals using trees are NOT allowed because of the resulting damage to the trees.

6. ALL PETS MUST BE ON A LEASH AT ALL TIMES. No pets are permitted to run loose along the trail at any time.

7. Public display of alcoholic beverages and consumption of alcoholic beverages while riding the trail are NOT permitted.

8. All horse riding in Westwood Park is done at your own risk. The District is not responsible for any accidents.

9. Be courteous to others and remember that you are sharing the trail with hikers, bikers and other park patrons. Yield the right a way when necessary.

10. The day use area closes at dark.

11. Please do not litter.
